JAAN-E-FAN
No, I am neither hysterical nor schizophrenic nor I am even tiny rats ass ashamed to admit that I enjoyed my tour in new Cinemax Kandivali, to watch Jaan-E-Maan. I
had been to movie with my family and friends in spite of mixed reactions and reviews of films pushing it to unavoidable side.
The wave of Nostalgia had swept me completely. No it wasn’t because I was seeing Salman s movie nor because ever bubbly Preity had something in this minutes wide screen presentation and definitely not because was seeing movie at Cinemax Kandivali , normally area called as “Tadipaar area”, In other words locale for outset people. But, primarily reason was I was seeing movie in Mumbai theatre after 2 years. Curiosity of absence of Shahrukh in Farah Khan’s hubby’s film was affirmed by Sajid Nadiadwala’s name as producer. Though the show timings was at 10-30 pm and I was nauseated ad tired of journey, still the thought of Salman-Akshay starrer cake was acting caffeine and keeping me alert.
Enough of adrenaline rush description, and go for movie now.The start pumped the remnant excitable neurotransmitters out of my brain and spine. Mere non dilated eye dream of Salman getting Filmfare by hand of the evergreat Dilip Kumar and yielding applause by yester actors and actresses who have laid foundation for today s actors had me mesmerized the moment when Tom Hanks had received a consecutive year. The story may not be appealing, but quirky remarks and witty conversation of Bonny, whoops Anupam Kher, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan though being silly and lame according to my mom and sis who like Mujhse dosti karoge, so you can imagine the choice……. were quiet a bit treat for me.
So, definitely sit back and enjoy the time ride which goes back and forth for I even don know. But the era in which the 40+ stars ooops is back in college with a geek Jughead (Aki) who has laugh that grinds our jaws and wanna be pop star Veronica look alike Preity was reminder of Riverdale campus with hunky Reggie ( Salman) bullying our geeky to get Preity to his concert. All in all the cinemascope before interval was unique in its concept of presentation that kept me glued to interval.Post interval wassame ol love triangle chick flick. Was prediciting outcome as I do of Sidney Sheldon s novels as have read all more than twice containing same old plot of lady in distress.
The same old plot was revealed in second half with circumstances repeated all over for n th time.It was performance of two great stalwarts Akki and Sallu kept film s dull part rolling. While, I found Preity rather all fizzed out from delivering decent performance under banner other than yash johar/ chopra , the supporting cast did their parts but not in finesse way. The film may have limited audience like me but was enjoyable in span of that sleepy 2.5 hours
