Kiss and Jail

A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous. ~Ingrid Bergman . Little did she know that he offended the police, politicians and culture of India!! The police stations over city have recently become scenes of Hindi and English romantic movies. The couples who offend some narrow minded people by display of affection are swarming the police. Culture savers are enraged on such sights, its taboo to express your love in public. It is crime to physically say I love you outside your house. Now, that sex education is banned am sure it will take couple of more months to ban kissing some one outside four walls and few more to stop people walking holding hands. That is what our educated, financial capital is narrowing to.
An arranged marriage is what culture says normal to be, where should couple meet and explore each other in courtship? A poor man living in shared accommodation cannot tell his wife her importance by a kiss anywhere!!!! It’s depressing that culture word is being misused so badly for gaining few votes and immense popularity, where in seven letters word is so intense and have deep rooted meaning to it. And the propagandas of such culture don’t even know its significance in building and enriching Indian heritage. Khajurao temples where sex is beautifully depicted is one of important tourist place to study Indian culture. Kamasutra, a beautiful Indian guide of sex is so badly misjudged and named porn. Are we protecting culture by banning the youth and jailing them for a kiss to their loved ones or destroying our culture of tomorrow????? Guess, the tourist also have to be careful know as it is ok in their land to say I love you and express it frequently, but in India it is crime and shame to do so, is it????

wow, i knew the whole kissing thing in bollywood was a major taboo which i always found odd, maybe cuz i'm american. as i've watched bollywood movies especially movies like Jism, Paap, Aetbaar, (notice the them...John Abraha..sigh :)the intimate scenes are very intimate without the clothes coming off but I think that's more graphic than giving a kiss.

i didn't know India was that extreme when it comes to just a kiss walking down the street.. that's new to me. ..well it's going to be up to the newer generation to start changing the way...i guess aishwarya and i don't know the actor's name started to break down the walls when they kissed in that bollywood movie that i have yet to see..

though it is not the kissing that is offending, it would pave way to many people misutilising it.. if you really love a person, why not do it without touching the person, especially with a girl. If it were to be all peope were pure minded enough to say I love you with all your heart, then things would not be fine which unfortunately is not the case. With the amount of problems women and children face(within home, family, and outside), kissing in public would lead more problems than anything else..the change is in you, if u change something, the change will affect you also, remember that first.

Oh, don't worry - everyone is kissing and doing it in India, even if they are poor and live in a one room joint family house - how else would you explain the high population growth rate ! ha ha :)

public displays of affection have still largely left the Indian social police aghast and agape!! It's perfect, it's normal for anyone to show their affection... and then again.. its a free country... so its perfect, its normal for the moral police to shout... If a top notch thai model can be asked to read to the blind for waring a 'very revealing' dress to a public function as penance (and the dress wasnt even half as revealing as what JLO wore to oscars a few years back...!!) then dude... anything is possible!

Please view the other side.

We have too many Romeos on the roads, eve teasing is a grwing menace. Believe me police indulges in eve teasing as well. Such offenders are treated ligtly. Many of them have the blessings of the politicians. Any girl wearing jeans and t shirt is a target of the police in the north. Her complaint is not accepted, they say you invite eve teasing by wearing such a dress. This is ridiculous. Do you want these romeos to go kiss any one they like ? Why don't they kiss an old lady selling fish ?

If I know and love some one I will not make a public display of my affection. Do you want a public display of khajurao on the streets ? Kama sutra on the fly overs ?

i m not averse to showing affectiong in public but people to know where to draw a line....a peck on the cheek or even the lips is ok....but getting into it is wrong...some things are best left for indoors...after all india is a land of cultures and traditions where even now she respect our parents and elders and give them the highest honour by touching their feet...

u had once asked me to tell you hw make ur blog less cluttered...

Hyppocrisy, my friend! These very politicians, who talk of 'public displays of affection' as 'uncultural', I wonder if call girls and glamorous models or actresses being called for 'some pleasure' is ethical and our whether our 'Indian values' teach us this....
Ah...I am sick of this uneducated behaviour in a country which is so rich in culture, heritage and knowledge. The knowledge of physical expression of love, aka Kamasutra, began from India itself. Well..I do not say you try one of those positions in the middle of the road. I also agree with certain people feeling uncomfortable and thinking about this will influence the society...but...wait...people!! go get a life and save your kids from Television first! huh...two faced fruitcakes!
Anyway, I am glad there are people like us, who belive, to each his own....you want to hold hands in public go ahead, but yes, crossing that certain level of decency in public shall not be appreciated...aamm..remember..we stay in a hyppocritical society, that makes decisions for OUR PERSONAL LIMITS, who will 'look' 'notice' 'talk about it' and then 'complaint about it'...arey you do not like it...turn away...why are you looking in the first place!!
And yeah, as for that Eve teasing thing, there are sections under IPC, which protect a woman from eve teasing, including verbal harassment. And if the police was so concerned about it and were actually planning to do something about it, they could have easily...afterall you see an eve teasing incident much more often than a couple getting cosy. Please go and complaint if you witness or face eve teasing!!Fight for your dignity...nobody has the right to harass you for you being a woman or simply because you love somebody and dare to express...huh...
